PEI to convert 5 schools to biomass heating systems by 2021

The government of P.E.I. has committed to installing five new biomass heating systems in public schools across the province by 2021.

Modern wood chip boilers imported from Europe – installed, maintained and operated by local contractors – will soon be heating the schools.

The federal government is supplying 50 per cent of the funding for the new boilers through the Low Carbon Economy Fund, while the province picks up the second half of the $6.5-million bill, CBC News reports.
